A few weeks ago, I told Brian & Laura that I wanted to do something generous to honor my mother. At the time, it was to leave a wildly generous tip to the waitress at the diner. They both looked at me like I was nuts, and told me that my mother would have told me that I was absolutely crazy and to stop acting like I was a billionaire.
So instead, I am going to put my money where my curls are. If she was here, Eileen would, no doubt, be immensely proud of me for cutting my hair off in support of children with pediatric cancer. She would still call me crazy, but taking care of others selflessly was something that my mother always did, no matter what little she left herself with. It's in that spirit that I am looking to give back now.
So, in just two weeks from today, I am cutting and donating my hair, along with fellow members of the Xaverian community, to support children fighting cancer - will you support them with me?
CLIP THE CLIPPERS FOR CHILDHOOD CANCER RESEARCH, AWARENESS AND SUPPORT
Licensed barbers and stylists will shave male participants’ heads and will cut 8-10 inches of female participants’ hair to donate. All participants are asked to raise at least $75.
In 2018 and 2019, Clip the Clippers had over 200 participants who raised over $130,000 for the fight against childhood cancer and made over 40 wigs for children suffering hair loss.
Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation’s mission is to fund less toxic therapies for children with cancer so they can have a better quality of life as they battle the disease and to give children battling cancer and their families hope during the most difficult days of their lives.
Children with Hair Loss is an organization who provides free human hair replacements to children with medically-related hair loss, a product and process that could cost families as much as $1,500.
Thank you for choosing to participate and help fight against childhood cancer. If you have any questions about the event, please contact Mr. Giugliano ’07 ([email protected]).
